This is a special edition of the Impact Docket — an Election Protection takeover.
Election Day is November 3, less than two months away, and the threats to a free and fair vote are no longer hypothetical. The Postal Service is fighting in court to carry out the president's executive order restricting mail-in voting — a rule a federal judge blocked last week as likely unconstitutional, finding no evidence of mail fraud to justify it. The administration has now taken it to the Supreme Court. Ballots are already going out in some states, and the outcome is far from settled. Add coordinated voter-roll purges, redistricting fights, and a rising tide of election disinformation, and the picture is clear: this is the moment for lawyers to get ready — not in October, now.

📡 Action #1: Monitor Election Disinformation — Training September 14

Open to anyone, attorney or not, and fully remote. L4GG is launching an Election Mis/Disinformation Response Network with Voter Protection Corps. Trained volunteers, supervised by an expert, will monitor social media for election-related misinformation, flag concerning content, and support rapid response through Election Day. This 101 training covers the threats voters will face and how to respond, and sets you up to sign up for shifts. Register for the September 14 training.
⚖️ Action #2: Become a Michigan Election Protection Attorney — Training September 18

For licensed attorneys who can serve in person in Michigan — from any state. L4GG, the Promote the Vote Fund, and the ACLU Fund of Michigan are recruiting attorneys to serve as nonpartisan poll challengers and affidavit collectors at Michigan voting sites, strengthening the evidentiary basis for any emergency litigation. Registered Michigan voters are preferred as challengers, but others can serve as monitors. This launch session unlocks the required asynchronous training. Register for the September 18 training.
🗳️ Action #3: Defend the Courts and Our Rights — State Ballot Measures
Several states are voting on measures that will shape judicial independence and fundamental rights. If you're in one of these states, your voice carries real weight — and several campaigns have remote ways to help from anywhere.
Montana — Vote YES on CI-132
Montana politicians recently passed a bill allowing political parties to contribute large sums of money to judicial candidates. CI-132 would enshrine nonpartisan judicial elections in the state constitution, protecting the long-standing tradition of selecting judges based on the person, not the party, and keeping politics out of the courts. Get involved with Montanans for Nonpartisan Courts:
In Montana: add your name to the endorsers (including lawyers and retired judges), or display a placard in your law office window.
Remote: raise the campaign's profile on Facebook, Instagram, or X.
Missouri — Vote NO on Amendment 3
In 2024, Missouri voters ended the state's abortion ban and enshrined the Right to Reproductive Freedom in the state constitution. Now politicians are pushing to overturn the will of the people, repeal this constitutional right, and once again ban abortion in nearly all cases again. Get involved and Stop the Ban:
In Missouri: canvass across the state or in St. Louis this weekend.
Remote (anywhere): phone bank every other Monday and every Wednesday via Zoom, 6:30–8:00 PM CST.
Colorado — Vote NO on Props 134 & 135
Both measures take decisions out of the hands of experts and families and put them in the hands of the government: Prop 134 subjects kids to invasive gender checks, and Prop 135 interferes with kids' medical care — both with no appeals process. Get involved with Families, Not Politics:
In Colorado: canvass in Centennial, West Colfax, East Denver, or Colorado Springs — or share your story as a parent, provider, or family member.
Remote: phone bank on Wednesdays, 6:00–8:30 PM MDT.
