🔴 A NOTE FROM TRACI: THANK YOU

A message from L4GG Founder and Executive Director Traci Feit Love

Yesterday, voters across the country cast their ballots, and lawyers from this community were there to protect them.

Almost 700 of you joined an L4GG election protection program this fall. You served at polling places in Virginia, Michigan, and Texas, answered voters’ questions, flagged problems while they could still be fixed, and pushed back on false election information online. Thank you for helping make this election free and fair.

The work continues as votes are counted and certified. On Friday, our volunteers will observe Georgia’s county election board meetings ahead of certification.

If you’re in the mood to celebrate, I’d love for you to join us on Tuesday, Nov. 17, when we’ll be marking L4GG’s 10th anniversary and the extraordinary impacts we’ve made – election protection being just one among so many. Our virtual celebration will recognize what this community has built, and we’ll share a big announcement about what comes next. Register for the Nov. 17 celebration.

With gratitude,

Traci

⚡ QUICK ACTIONS

💵 Tell Congress: Block OMB’s Grant Rule for Good

📍 L4GG.org/BlockOMBRule

Congress has until Dec. 11 to keep blocking the White House Office of Management and Budget’s overhaul of federal grant rules. If the block lapses, any administration could withhold, suspend, or terminate grants without notice or cause and award funding based on partisan ideology rather than merit, community need, and congressional intent. The rule would also force states, local governments, schools, and universities to implement unlawful executive orders. Prefer to call? Use our call script.

Tell Congress to block OMB’s grant rule for good.

⚖️ Tell the Senate: Reject Dr. Heidi Overton for FDA Commissioner

📍 L4GG.org/RejectOverton

The Senate returns Nov. 9, and a vote on Dr. Heidi Overton’s nomination for FDA commissioner is expected this month. At her Sept. 24 hearing, senators pressed her on vaccines and on her push to restrict mifepristone, the FDA-approved medication used safely for decades in abortion and miscarriage care. Senators need to hear from lawyers before they vote.

Tell the Senate to reject this nomination.

🚌 Submit a Comment: Stop the Department of Transportation from Linking Transit Funding to Marriage and Birth Rates

📍 Follow the steps below | Comment deadline: November 16

The Department of Transportation has proposed new guidance that would fundamentally change how federal funding is distributed for transit improvements and expansions. Instead of funding transit where people actually use it, this proposal would prioritize funding for places using reasons that are completely irrelevant to transit: high marriage and birth rates. The Trump administration has already stalled many transit capital improvement projects, and this new guidance would reduce transit funding in the areas that need it the most. The Congressional Research Service found that areas with high birth and marriage rates are generally farther from urban areas, have lower population density, and have higher rates of single-occupancy driving. Make your voice heard to stop this absurd policy change.

  1. Read the summary by Transportation for America and draft your comment

  2. Submit your comment by November 16, 2026

  3. Let us know you submitted at L4GG.org/TrackComment

🗳️ NORTH CAROLINA: Monitor County Canvass Meetings

📍 Sign up for a shift | In-person (virtual in some counties) | Nov 6-13

Partners in North Carolina are recruiting volunteers to monitor canvass meetings in all 100 counties. Most counties meet Tuesday, Nov. 10, to review provisional ballots, and every county meets Friday, Nov. 13, for the Day of Canvass. See open shifts by county, then watch the training recordings on the sign-up form. Lawyers who are physically in North Carolina can also partner with the Southern Coalition for Social Justice’s legal canvass monitoring program.

Watch the training and sign up for a shift.

🎉 COMMUNITY IMPACT: TWO WINS AT THE BALLOT BOX

For weeks, this docket shared ways to help campaigns defending the courts and our rights at the ballot box. Yesterday, Missouri voters defeated Amendment 3, which would have overturned the right to reproductive freedom they enshrined in 2024 and banned abortion in nearly all cases again. In Montana, voters approved CI-132, which enshrines nonpartisan judicial elections in the state constitution. In Colorado, Props 134 and 135 remain too close to call.

Congratulations to our partners at Missouri’s Stop the Ban and Montanans for Nonpartisan Courts. We want to send enormous thanks to every one of you who made calls, knocked on doors, or passed these opportunities along to a colleague or friend.

In other good news: Lindsay Polega-Quigley, a graduate of L4GG’s 2024 State Legislative Advocacy Academy Leadership Program, won her race for the Florida House of Representatives. Congratulations, Lindsay!

We’ll be back next week with more ways to take action—but the work doesn’t stop here.
