🔴 The Moment We're In: Day 46 and No End in Sight
When a sitting president uses genocidal language to describe American citizens, we are in a different country than the one we thought we knew. This is not hyperbole. It is a fact that demands a response — and the response has to come from every corner of this country, including its lawyers.
And the country is responding. When the DOJ proposed a rule to shield its own attorneys from state ethics investigations, more than one million people filed comments in opposition — nearly 100 of them L4GG lawyers submitting substantive legal arguments designed to build a record the agency will have to answer for in court. One million comments is not a number the administration can ignore. It is proof that people are paying attention, and that lawyers who know how to fight in the legal record are among the most powerful voices in that fight.
The country needs to see us. Not in courtrooms, not in briefs, not behind closed doors — but standing outside, in public, in front of the institutions we've sworn to uphold, saying clearly: this is not who we are. That is what Law Day is for. That is what this moment demands.
Events are now live in 18 cities across the country. If you're in DC, join us at the Supreme Court. If your city isn't on the list yet, you can put it there — scroll down to learn how to organize your own event in under an hour.
We don't stand for this. We stand for the rule of law. And on May 1, we show up to prove it.
⚡ QUICK ACTIONS
⚖️ Make a Plan to Stand up for the Rule of Law on May 1
We need lawyers to be visible. Not just engaged, not just informed — visible. Standing outside courthouses in cities across this country, in large enough numbers that no one can pretend the legal profession is silent.
Events are confirmed in 18 cities and growing. Find the one nearest you, register, and put May 1 on your calendar now. If your city isn't listed yet, scroll down — organizing your own event takes less than an hour, and L4GG handles everything else.
🗳️ Could You Help Protect the Vote in Michigan?
L4GG is in early conversations with a leading Michigan voting rights organization about deploying volunteer attorneys as election protection volunteers this fall. We're not ready to announce a formal partnership yet — but we want to gauge interest now so we can assess how to move forward.
Opportunities would include remote hotline shifts, in-person poll monitoring, and post-election canvass monitoring. Some roles are open to anyone; others require being a registered Michigan voter or willingness to travel. Trainings will be provided.
Fill out our 2-minute interest form — it helps us understand what our community can realistically offer!
📜 Write to Congress: Don't Hand the DOJ to the President
📍 L4GG.org/StopHR8065
When the courts kept blocking the administration from installing its own picks in U.S. attorney offices indefinitely, Congress responded — not by defending judicial independence, but by introducing a bill to eliminate it. H.R. 8065 would strip federal district courts of their authority to appoint interim U.S. attorneys, handing that power entirely to the Attorney General and effectively bypassing Senate confirmation.
This is a direct attack on the separation of powers — introduced specifically because the courts stood in the way.
Your voice as a lawyer matters here. A letter to your Member of Congress identifying yourself as an attorney and an officer of the court carries weight that form emails don't. It takes two minutes.
Write to your Member of Congress at L4GG.org/StopHR8065.
📩 SHORT-TERM ENGAGEMENT — Live Events & Trainings
🎬 Film Screening: Zurawski v. Texas — Virtual Screening + Live Discussion
📍 L4GG.org/Zurawski | April 16 | Film at 6pm ET | Discussion at 7:40pm ET
Join L4GG for a virtual screening of Zurawski v. Texas — a documentary about the Texas women who sued their state after being denied critical reproductive healthcare — followed by a live conversation with two of the plaintiffs, Amanda Zurawski and Dr. Austin Dennard.
The film runs 98 minutes. It will be available starting at 5pm ET; we recommend watching at 6pm so the discussion is fresh. Click "Pre-register for Free" to reserve your spot.
📋 Submit a Comment: Defend Work Permits for Asylum Seekers
📍Follow the steps below | Comment deadline: April 24
A proposed federal rule would effectively prevent many asylum seekers from obtaining work authorization. Given current processing times, USCIS itself estimates it could take 14 to 173 years to resume accepting applications.

☣️ Submit a Comment: Oppose EPA's Rollback of Protections Against a Known Carcinogen
📍Follow the steps below | Comment deadline: May 1
The EPA is proposing to roll back rules for commercial sterilizers — major emitters of ethylene oxide (EtO), a potent carcinogen. This rule would increase EtO emissions by over 17,000 pounds per year near homes, schools, and parks, and permanently restrict the use of new science in health risk assessments.

🏭 Submit a Comment: Protect Families from Industrial Chemical Disasters
📍Follow the steps below | Comment deadline: April 10 Deadline Extended to May 11
The EPA is proposing to gut the Risk Management Program — stripping third-party audits, removing "stop work" authority for employees during emergencies, and limiting the public's ability to know what hazardous chemicals are stored next to their schools and homes.
To fight back effectively, we need substantive comments that build a legal record the EPA is forced to address. Here’s how you can take action

🛠️ LONG-TERM ENGAGEMENT
⚖️ Organize a Law Day of Action Event on May 1
On May 1, legal professionals across America will gather at courthouses to publicly retake their oaths. Last year, Law Day mobilized 10,000+ lawyers in 50+ cities. This year, the stakes are higher. When the president uses genocidal language to describe people who live here, lawyers cannot be silent. Law Day 2026 is a chance to stand in front of your courthouse — visibly, publicly — and say that the rule of law is not negotiable. We need events everywhere. We need yours.
Here's what you need: a courthouse, 30 minutes, and the willingness to show up.That's it. No budget, no committee, no event planning experience. L4GG provides everything else — a messaging toolkit, sample run-of-show, graphics, press outreach, and direct staff support.

🗣️ Volunteer as an Interpreter at Work Permit Clinics
Asylum seekers need stability — and a work permit is a vital step toward rebuilding their lives. That's why L4GG runs virtual work permit clinics where volunteer attorneys help asylum seekers navigate the application process. But many of our clients speak limited English, and without interpreters, we can't serve them.
We're seeking fluent Spanish-speaking interpreters to volunteer at upcoming virtual clinics on April 16 and April 22. No legal experience is needed — just fluency in Spanish and a willingness to help someone through one of the most important moments in their case.
🎉 Community Impact: A Million Comments!
When the DOJ proposed a rule to shield its own attorneys from state ethics investigations, nearly 100 L4GG lawyers showed up — submitting substantive legal comments designed to build a record the agency will have to answer for in court. They were part of a broader wave: 1,055,481 comments were filed in total. That kind of legal firepower doesn't happen by accident. It happens because this community shows up.
We’ll be back next week with more ways to take action—but the work doesn’t stop here.
