🔴 The Moment We’re In: When the Lights Go Out, Power Moves
The shutdown isn’t just a budget fight: it’s a pressure test of what holds when government is dimmed. Courts slow, watchdogs thin out, and facts get harder to find. In that quiet, power reaches further.
Here’s what that looks like right now: judges with extreme records moving toward lifetime seats; a federal push to strip greenhouse-gas reporting, blinding communities and courts to the facts they need; and a national bid to make voter registration hinge on passport-style proof of citizenship, turning eligible voters away at the door. Meanwhile, peaceful protests for immigrants’ rights are being brutally pushed down by ICE—with little coverage—all while immigrants still face detention and delay just to earn the right to work.
We’re not standing down. Below, you’ll find ways to meet this moment—defending judicial integrity, protecting public data and the ballot, and putting legal skills to work for people who need them now.
⚡ URGENT ACTION
🛑 Tell the Senate: Reject Trump’s Dangerous Judicial Nominee
📍 L4GG.org/RejectBragdon | 2 min
President Trump’s nominee for the U.S. District Court in North Carolina—David Bragdon—is one of the most extreme judicial nominees we’ve seen. If confirmed, he will hold a lifetime seat on the federal bench, with power over civil rights, healthcare, and fundamental freedoms. His record is disqualifying:
Dismissed racial bias in the death penalty, suggesting the solution is to execute more white people.
Equated abortion with murder and said pregnant people must “face the consequences.”
Vilified welfare recipients and implied that “equality” threatens American values.
Judges are entrusted with protecting rights, not imposing personal ideology. The Senate Judiciary Committee is considering his nomination TOMORROW. Take action now to stop this dangerous appointment!

🌍 Submit a Comment: Protect Climate Accountability
📩 Email NPRM-comments@L4GG.org for templates | Deadline: Nov 3
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is proposing to eliminate the Greenhouse Gas Reporting Program, a critical policy that provides the data behind many regulations protecting your community’s health, air quality, and infrastructure.
This is a high-stakes moment for both democratic participation and environmental protection. If this reporting program is removed, major polluters will no longer have to disclose their climate impacts—not to the public, the EPA, or the communities most at risk.
Sending a form letter or signing a petition won’t cut it here. Only detailed, substantive comments carry legal weight, and the EPA is required by law to review and respond to them.
That’s where you come in. We know that writing a regulatory comment can seem daunting, so L4GG created custom toolkits for scientists, legal and policy professionals, and everyday community members. These resources break down the legal requirements into clear, easy-to-use templates that will help you craft a powerful comment the EPA must consider.
Email us at NPRM-comments@L4GG.org to access the toolkit and start drafting your comment today. The deadline to submit to the federal docket is November 3, 2025.
📄 Remote Volunteer Opportunity: Work Permit Legal Clinics
For asylum seekers, a work permit is often the first real step toward stability—and right now, many are still waiting for help. That’s why we’re seeking experienced immigration attorneys to provide remote support for upcoming legal clinics taking place in late October.
The clinics will be hosted by partner law firms in New York City, but you don’t need to be there in person to make a difference. We need remote volunteers to review draft work permit applications on: October 27, 28, 29, and 30.
If you’re comfortable reviewing work permit applications and can lend your time from afar, your expertise can directly impact someone’s future. Fill out the interest form now!
🗳️ Submit a Public Comment: Oppose Voter Suppression at the EAC
📍L4GG.org/EACVote | Deadline: Oct 20
In just 48 hours, far-right election groups have submitted over 200,000 comments urging the Election Assistance Commission (EAC) to require proof of citizenship—like a passport—just to register to vote. This is a coordinated attempt to suppress voters and restrict access to the ballot.
We need to match their volume with a strong pro-democracy response before the October 20 deadline. Here’s how you can help:
Want to do more? Use this longer template if you’re part of an organization, check out these talking points, or share this email blast template with your members.
We can’t let this comment campaign go unanswered. Submit your comment today and help stop voter suppression in its tracks!
We’ll be back in two weeks with more ways to take action—but the work doesn’t stop here.
